Tita Anderson
Dear Prospective Members,
My
name is Tita Anderson and I am currently a senior. I play the bass clarinet
and I am a member of the winterguard. I am very sorry to say that I won’t
get a chance to meet many of you, but I hope through this letter, you’ll get
to know me better.
This time of
your life is probably one of the most exciting, frightening, and all around
confusing times. I can remember being absolutely scared to death of high
school. I think one of the things that really helped me to feel better and
more comfortable is the fact that I already knew a large majority of the
school’s population. It made me feel so much better to see a familiar face
here and there in the hallway. I could get lost in the hallways with these
people, have a table to sit at on the first day at lunch, and most of all,
begin some of the best friendships of my high school career.
Marching band helped me to integrate myself into the high school swing of
things. It isn’t just marching around on a field playing some blah music
accompanied by some blah guard work. Marching band is a melting pot of
color and sound that is absolutely artistic while still remaining very
athletic. It is definitely no easy task marching a 10-minute plus show, but
this is what makes the accomplishment so special. The rush of performing in
front of so many people who are there to see you gives you the energy to
make it through the show. It is an absolutely indescribable feeling after
you have performed your heart out and left the best show you’ve ever had on
the field. And that feeling not only pertains to marching band but also to winterguard as well.
But, of course, things like this don’t come without a little work. And yes,
sometimes things can get a little difficult. Rehearsals get hot on that
blacktop – BUT – it all makes sense after you perform that first show. The
hard work does pay off. You not only get the experience of a lifetime, you
also get some of the most meaningful relationships you will ever have. I
would definitely not trade my experiences I’ve had with this band program
with anything else in the world. I have grown not only as a performer and a
musician but also as a person.
All
I can say is, even if there is a little doubt, don’t let that stop you from
making one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. I wish I were in your
shoes – I would love to do the most unforgettable experiences of my life
over again! Good luck on your decision and high school!
